Overview

This second edition Masterclass in Oncological Whole-Body MRI will be delivered online, over two half-days as a workstation-based teaching course. We will provide a foundational understanding of this specialised technique, imaging optimisation and application for both disease detection and incidental findings in the setting of cancer screening. A focus on myeloma will also highlight patterns of disease.

The comparative value of utilising WB-MRI for the detection of breast and prostate cancer will be demonstrated, along with its use for response assessment in bone disease. Our expert faculty have extensive clinical knowledge and experience of WB-MRI, and delegates will benefit from mentored hands-on case-based learning with individual workstations. Between 35-40 brand new cases will be reviewed, each chosen to illustrate specific learning points, all summarised in a comprehensive workbook which will be posted to your specified address before the course.

To achieve optimum experience from this interactive course, two screens, one with a camera are required. Please scroll down to ‘Important Details’ for full details of the joining instructions.

Learning Objectives

  • To learn how to perform and read WB-MRI scans for disease detection and response assessments.
  • To understand how WB-MRI can help maintain health by early disease detection and disease characterisation using the ONCO-RADS standard.
  • To discuss guidelines and benefits of WB-MRI in multiple myeloma using the MY-RADS standard.
  • To learn about the detection and bone response benefits of WB-MRI in prostate and breast cancer using the MET-RADS standard.

Meet The Speakers

Prof Dow-Mu Koh

Prof Dow-Mu Koh

Prof

Prof. Koh obtained his primary medical degree in Singapore (1989). Following further training in internal medicine and diagnostic radiology, he was awarded the fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologist (UK) in 1996. He was appointed to the position of Consultant Radiologist in Functional Imaging at the Royal Marsden Hospital in January 2008 and was conferred the title of Professor in Functional Cancer Imaging at the Institute of Cancer Research in 2015. Prof. Koh’s current clinical and research interest is in the development and application of functional imaging techniques for tumour assessment. He has a particular interest in developing and evaluating diffusion-weighted MR imaging in the body (DWI), to enhance and improve the ability to detect and characterise tumours, as well as to monitor the effects of conventional and novel therapeutics. Prof. Koh is the Imaging Theme Lead for the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) Biomedical Research Centre at the Royal Marsden Hospital and Institute of Cancer Research. In 2015, he was appointed a member of the National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) Imaging Biomarker Advisory Board in the UK. In addition to his research, Prof. Koh lectures regularly at numerous conferences and courses, including the European Congress of Radiology (ECR), European School of Radiology (ESOR), European Society of Gastrointestinal and Abdominal Radiology (ESGAR), International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine meetings (ISMRM) and the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) meetings. He was named outstanding teacher by the ISMRM in 2008, 2009 and 2012. Prof. Koh was elected a Fellow of the International Cancer Imaging Society (ICIS) (2007) and appointed Honorary Treasurer of the Society in 2011. He is series organiser for the ICIS interactive courses, a hands-on teaching course; and also the course organiser of the Body DWI course on behalf of the ESMRMB School of MRI. Prof. Koh is currently an associate editor for Radiology, and also reviews regularly for other radiological and medical journals. He was awarded the Barclay Medal in 2013 for his contributions to the British Journal of Radiology. Prof. Koh has had numerous publications in peer reviewed journals and textbooks. In 2009 he co-edited a book, ‘Diffusion-weighted MRI: Applications in the Body’, published by Springer.

Prof Anwar Padhani

Participants must have access to two screens for the duration of the course. As this is an interactive course, we ask that you join using a device with a camera to achieve the optimum experience. Options include two screens linked to a computer (desktop / laptop) or a single screen on a computer (desktop / laptop) and an additional separate mobile device (e.g. computer tablet). We recommend a minimum desktop screen size of 22” (ideally 1920×1080 HD) for the image viewing platform, while the other (potentially smaller) device will provide interactive dialogue using Zoom.

For viewing all cases, participants will receive a unique URL and personalised login credentials to access the online portal. The portal uses sophisticated browser-based technology, works with a very broad selection of Operating Systems and devices, and allows for complete access with zero install footprint.

A broadband connection (rather than WiFi) is strongly recommended with a minimum connection of 8 Mbps to access the Application Portal. The portal will work with any operating system capable of running HTML5-enabled browsers including, but not limited to:

  • Chrome
  • Safari
  • Firefox
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 11

Concurrently, Zoom will be used to deliver the introductory lecture for each of the four topics, and will enable interaction with faculty members throughout the whole course. Additional minimum bandwidth of 4 Mbps is recommended for Zoom, i.e. a combined non-shared bandwidth of 12 Mbps should provide a requisite learning experience.

Online technical support will be available throughout the course, with a dedicated technical support session at the start of the course to ensure connectivity. Attendance during the technical support session is imperative; if we discover that your connectivity is not satisfactory, you may not be able to participate in the course.

If you are concerned that your bandwidth connection speed is not sufficient, we can provide testing access to a remote system as part of the pre-event support. A guide to your bandwidth information can be checked using a quick speed test, e.g.  https://fast.com

The course workbook is dispatched to your preferred address (please complete at time of registration) and the following postage fees apply:

UK £16

Europe: £33

Rest of the World: £50
