Social Media Policy
Social Media Policy
Social media encompasses a wide range of online platforms, including forums, blogs, podcasts, images, videos, and social networking sites.
Social media allows ICIS to communicate with a broader and more diverse audience, share educational content, and engage dynamically with members and the public. However, improper use can pose risks to ICIS’s reputation, legal compliance, and professional standards.
This policy provides guidance for appropriate and responsible use of social media by ICIS Fellows and members.
Scope of Policy
- This policy applies to all ICIS Staff, Stakeholders, Fellows and members.
- Breaches of this policy may result in disciplinary action under ICIS rules or bye-laws.
- ICIS reserves the right to monitor, investigate, and regulate member conduct relating to ICIS or other members.
- Members may be required to remove posts that violate this policy.

Professional and Personal Use
When Posting on Social Media:
You should:
- Use professional, respectful language
- Think carefully before posting or sharing content
- Ensure content and profiles align with your professional image and ICIS affiliation
- Make clear when views are personal, not representative of ICIS (e.g., “The views expressed here are my own and do not represent ICIS”)
You should not:
- Post content that is disruptive, threatening, abusive, harassing, obscene, libellous, or invades another person’s privacy
- Use ICIS’s name, logos, or trademarks without written consent
- Upload content deemed confidential by ICIS
- Infringe copyright, trademarks, or intellectual property rights
- Breach UK data protection law (e.g., sharing personal data without consent)
- Make misleading statements or impersonate others
- Provide references for individuals online, as these could create liability for ICIS or yourself
Personal Use:
- ICIS does not discourage personal social media use.
- Members should follow the same professional standards and ensure personal use does not compromise ICIS’s reputation or legal compliance.
Monitoring Negative Comments
- Members are encouraged to notify ICIS of negative comments or concerns on ICIS social media pages by emailing [email protected].
- ICIS will assess and respond appropriately, while maintaining compliance with legal obligations.
Compliance and Enforcement
- Failure to comply with this policy may result in disciplinary action, removal of content, or other action deemed appropriate by ICIS.
- Members must cooperate with any investigations relating to potential breaches.

This policy is effective immediately and supersedes previous versions. It will be reviewed regularly and updated as necessary to reflect changes in UK law, professional standards, or social media practices.
