ICIS share knowledge in Oman

ICIS share knowledge in Oman

On 15 and 16 February 2012 the Omani Ministry for Health and the International Cancer Imaging Society (ICIS) held a joint International Conference on Cancer Imaging at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Muscat, Oman. The course was arranged to celebrate the silver jubilee of the Royal Hospital of Oman and ICIS were delighted to be involved on this special occasion.

Eight ICIS fellows: Vincent Chong, Giovanni Morana, Harriet Thoeny, Matthijs Oudkerk, Daniel Vanel, Kieran McHugh, Heinz-Peter Schlemmer and Robert Hermans, travelled to Oman to lecture on a wide variety of topics and share their knowledge and experience of improving the management of patients with cancer with the Omanis. Over 170 delegates working within all areas related to the management of cancer patients: radiologists, radiographers, clinicians and nurses attended the meeting from all over Oman, initiating lively discussions on the subject matter and further consolidating the worldwide reputation of ICIS’ expertise in the field of cancer imaging.

As well as the educational aspect of the meeting, the ICIS fellows were treated to an outstanding performance of Arabian music at the Muscat Opera House, pictured, by the Omani Ministry for Health and organising committee. Professor Vincent Chong commented ‘All of us thoroughly enjoyed the stupendous arrangements and hospitality’.

As well as the ICIS Annual Teaching Course (to be held 4-6 October 2012 in Oxford, UK), ICIS are also involved in two further international satellite meetings in the next twelve months. The first is in conjunction with the Brazilian Congress of Radiology in Brasilia in September 2012 and the second with the Radiological Society of South Africa in January 2013.
